Tacoma Rail uses technology to manage railcar movements, customer information, and data we share with other railroads.

Automated Rail Management System (ARMS)

We use Cedar AI’s Automated Rail Management System (ARMS). It allows for the tracking of railcars and their length, weight limits, car hire, demurrage, and freight charges. It also features real-time electronic data interchange (EDI) communication with all the railroads in North America. We use the system to the fullest to provide efficiencies in the operation.

Business Exchange (BEX)

We also participate in the Business Exchange (BEX) in Tacoma. The Port of Tacoma, rail carriers, and international intermodal customers use the BEX to share information about trains moving to and from Tacoma’s container terminals.

These systems help us share accurate information with our customers and manage freight more efficiently.
