Tacoma Rail makes use of modern technology to manage car movements, customer information and data exchange with our connections.

Tacoma Rail uses Cedar AI’s Automated Rail Management System (ARMS). It allows for the tracking of railcars and their length, weight restrictions, car hire, demurrage and freight charges. It also features real-time electronic data interchange (EDI) communication with all of the railroads in North America. Tacoma Rail is using the system to its fullest to provide efficiencies in the operation.

Tacoma Rail also participates in the Business Exchange (BEX) in Tacoma. Used by the Port, rail carriers and international intermodal customers, the BEX provides a clearinghouse for information on trains moving to and from container terminals in Tacoma.
